Background & Objective: In recent years, the diagnosis of children with special needs has intensified. According to the report of the World Health Organization, 15% of the world's population struggles with some kind of disability every year, and 2-4% of them face serious problems. According to the statistics of the Social Security Organization, 29,000 to 35,000 disabled babies are born in Iran every year. Children and mentally retarded people are more investigated and studied nowadays, because the existence of a mentally retarded child brings irreparable damage and effects to the family and increases the psychological pressure, social isolation and disturbance in their mental health. to give Mothers of mentally retarded children, who are the main caregivers of their children, suffer from mental exhaustion more than other family members. Fathers participate less in care activities compared to mothers. The mental state of mothers dealing with mentally disabled children plays a very important role in determining the overall development of the child. Psychiatric complications such as depression and anxiety are more common among mothers of children with mental disabilities compared to fathers. 35 to 53% of mothers of children with disabilities have symptoms of depression. Mothers of mentally retarded children are responsible for the biggest role in raising the child and this can cause them the most stress. Therefore, this stress can weaken the function of mothers in raising children. In today's society, due to the lifestyle and economic conditions of the society, people suffer a lot of stress, and the presence of stress caused by the existence of a disabled child can lead to psychological exhaustion of most families. According to the above materials regarding the effectiveness of interventions based on mindfulness and because there are few studies on the subject of mindfulness training on mothers with mentally retarded children, and also the need to pay attention to the basic and educational needs of parents, especially mothers who Due to more communication with the child, they suffer the most damage, so the purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of mindfulness training on the rumination of mothers with intellectually disabled children in Flowerjan city.
Methods: The current research was a semi-experimental type with a pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population of the research included all the mothers with mentally retarded children under the education of Ekhlas School for Exceptional Children in Flowerjan city, 30 people were selected by available sampling method and they were replaced in two experimental groups (15 people) and control (15 people) . The experimental group received 8 sessions of 120 minutes of mindfulness training. Nolen-Hoeksma and Morrow (1991) Rumination Response Scale scores were compared at two time points before and after Agai mindfulness training treatment. Data analysis was done using covariance analysis. The significance level of the tests was 0.05.
Results: Analysis of research data showed that group mindfulness training has a significant effect on the rumination of mothers with mentally retarded children, and the effect size is 64%. (P<0.001).
Conclusion: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of group mindfulness training on the rumination of mothers with mentally retarded children in Flowerjan city. The results of the present study showed that the effectiveness of group mindfulness training has a significant effect on the rumination of mothers with mentally retarded children in Flowerjan city and improves rumination in mothers with mentally retarded children. In explaining this finding, it can be stated that the evidence shows that the main cause of rumination is the patient's false beliefs. In fact, the patient's false beliefs about the signs and symptoms he receives from the environment cause him not to be able to organize his thoughts and as a result starts the rumination process in him. It seems that when the meaning of the sign changes, these thoughts change and rumination decreases. In the effectiveness of mindfulness-based therapy, the emphasis is on how to communicate with emotions and thoughts. From the points of view that can be cited in the etiology of mental disorders, it is the change in the way a person encounters thoughts and emotions, and in the treatment of mindfulness, a person's relationship with his thoughts and emotions has gone out of the abnormal state and approached the normal state. Also, in this treatment, the control and management of the person's emotions has been changed and the reduction of the person's avoidance has had an effect on the reduction of rumination. Studies focusing on mindfulness in female populations have typically focused on mindfulness-based interventions on maternal health outcomes. These studies provide promising results that show that cultivating mindfulness through meditation improves mood and reduces stress and ruminative thought processes in women. Notably, much work on the relationship between mindfulness and ruminative thinking in women has focused on mindfulness-based interventions. Assessing the association of mindfulness with other forms of rumination (eg, nocturnal, anger, depression) may have important clinical implications for serious complications such as insomnia and depression. The results of the present study showed that the effectiveness of group mindfulness training has a significant effect on the rumination of mothers with mentally retarded children in Flowerjan city and improves rumination in mothers with mentally retarded children. Therefore, group mindfulness training can be used as a treatment along with other effective treatment methods to improve the psychological problems of mothers with mentally retarded children.
